Artist, Sam Macy is a graduate of The University of Vermont where he studied mathematics, art and architecture. His love of the outdoors and the natural beauty of each species of tree inspired his vision to create not only iconic landmarks and landscapes, but commissioned pieces as well.
Sam lives in Vermont with his wife, Ali and GSP pup, Blue. When he isn't head-down in his scroll saw, he loves spending time outside. Whether he is messing around in the back yard, building a pigeon loft, hiking, paddle boarding, snowshoeing or finishing up something on Ali's "honey-do" list, he makes sure as much of it as possible happens in the VT snow or sunshine. He is constantly looking for new projects or things to learn which is where inspiration for so many of his Shadow Boxes comes from.
Ali is a nutrition & fitness coach, blogger, and content creator.
Because her personal career requires very different skills than Sam's, she is there to give him a fresh perspective when he needs a second set of eyes, support, or a bit of help problem solving.
Ali coordinates marketing and media for Sam Macy Designs, and is the voice behind Sam Macy Designs' accompanying blog, Life Outside the Shop. She holds the VERY important role of reminding Sam to take a break, eat and relax every now and then so he can keep working and creating in his shop.
When Sam and Ali bought their home in 2017, it was a move-in ready duplex. So naturally, they tore it apart. Where some people may have seen the potential for renters and a second passive income, Sam and Ali saw the perfect starter home that would allow for the time and space to create exactly what they wanted and needed.
What is now Sam's shop was once a garage and then a kitchen, living room and office. The shop itself has been painted, repainted and reconfigured dozens of times as his work and needs grow. Much like any living, breathing and growing endeavor, the shop continues to evolve each and every day as Sam takes on each unique project (and Ali still puts him to work with her never ending honey-do house list).
