The Sunday before our wedding, we dusted off the old (and Sam’s brand new!) pew pews and went skeet shooting with his parents, family friends, and our friend, Chuck!

Is there a better way to let off some steam and stress the weekend before your wedding?

The only rules we had while skeet shooting were SAFETY FIRST (Sam’s parents were gun safety instructors, so we’re always super on top of it) and don’t bruise your cheek or shoulder before the wedding… which we were able to accomplish. Thank goodness.

With duck season starting in T-minus a few days and bringing home Blue (our GSP pup!) in T-minus three weeks, it was the perfect time to shoot some clays.

It was an absolute blast. Here are some spoilers:

1. Chuck crushed it
2. Sam started crushing it once he figured out his new Beretta A400 Xplor (obviously had to get the same one as Ethan Pippitt of Standing Stone Kennels)
3. I was God awful. But I think next time if we go with fewer people and I get a bit more practice, I’ll be much better.

We were also interrupted by a bunch of cows halfway through our morning…

Now it’s time for some honesty…

When I first met Sam and learned about his family’s love of hunting, I was SUPER nervous. As someone who grew up FAR away from guns, the thought of touching one (let alone shooting one) was terrifying to me.

This was only my second time skeet shooting (Sam’s…. millionth?) and I do still get a little nervous going into it. But, every time I get a little bit more confident.

Surrounding myself with people who know what they’re doing, have years of safety instruction experience, and who have taught me to respect their power has been an awesome adventure so far.

Like I said (and, like you saw), I was pretty awful! There were a lot of things going on and I was honestly WAY more focused on staying safe, letting other people shoot, and having fun than improving my shot. But LOOK OUT BOYS… next time around, I’m asking for ALL the pointers so I can hone it in!
