Welcome to Part One of our two-part home office renovation series. We take you from idea conception to, well, the giant hole in our house.

This project — like most of our projects — was a long time coming and an even longer time desired. Before the reno, our (now) bright and airy office was a dark corner of the house that I avoided at all costs. It still had the original paint and wall-to-wall carpet, and we were still rocking Sam’s queen mattress from college.

(Yep, it was also our guest room. Luckily, we only had to explain it to a few unlucky friends who crashed with us here and there.)

We knew we needed a better solution for guests and as two work-from-homers, we also needed a nice space to post up and get stuff done.

Home Office Renovation Highlights

1. (Finally) cleaned and organized the old space
2. Ripped out the old carpet
3. Pulled out the old window
4. Cut open the side of our house
5. Braved a snowstorm while framing the new window
6. Put the new window in
7. Upped our insulation game (hello, VT winters!)

Part Two Coming Soon

Next up came the fun stuff if you ask me: putting in the floor, painting, installing the floating shelves, figuring out where all my plant babies were going to live, and DECORATING.
